Burt Jones to Newsmax: Willis Reelection Won’t Help Case Against Trump

Georgia Lieutenant Gov. Burt Jones told Newsmax on Wednesday that it “was not a surprise” that Fani Willis got reelected as Fulton County District Attorney, but said that this won’t prevent her case against former President Donald Trump from being thrown out.

Jones noted on “National Report” the morning after Election Day that Willis “came after me as well and I was actually the only person to actually beat her in court, I got her removed from my case because she had a clear conflict of interest.”

A Georgia judge in July 2022 ruled to prevent Willis from investigating Jones, then a Republican state senator who signed the “unofficial electorate certificate” that attempted to grant the state’s electoral votes in the 2020 presidential election to Trump, as part of her case against Trump over his alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state after Willis hosted a campaign fundraiser for his opponent in the race for lieutenant governor at the time.
